TTY Drama

I’m sure some of you have noticed that I have once again disappeared from the blogging world. It seems my life is never dull lately. I’ve been working nonstop to get my class work done before I go to Russia. I have finished one class (took the midterm and completed all assignments through October 18th). The other class I have just finished reading the novel I had to read and lack three homework problems and a 8-15 page report, and possibly a midterm before I leave. This next week seems to prove it will be even more hectic to get this stuff done.

That, ladies and gentlemen has been the least of my worries this week. It seems that the Campus Shop has been scammed out of several thousand dollars this week. I want to use this post as a warning to any of you that may think that you are or you work for a small business and don’t stand a chance at getting scammed. This person called our store during the busiest season of time, rush, and posed as a deaf person (which is not unusual because GWU is a deaf school and has a sign language program). They used the TTY phone system and first got in contact with me there. They said they wanted to purchase some books to donate to a charity. I told this person we were very busy but I would look into it as soon as I could. This person was very pushy and kept calling and emailing me to get it done. I put this off thinking they had a disability and were just anxious to get the books shipped. Our policy has always been that if we do a special order for someone that we must have it prepaid for. This person provided credit card numbers along with security codes for most of the cards. Each went through our system without a flag. Once I got the order finished with I was happy to not have to bother with this person again. Then about a week and a half later they contacted me again wanting to purchase more copies of the book for the charity. We went through the same procedure once again and didn’t have a problem. Then the third time we convinced the manager to check on the cards. He called the company and indeed the cards were fraudulent (don’t know why the credit card company knew this but didn’t flag the cards). Now there is a big investigation going on. With the help of some of my computer geek friends I have been able to provide the police with some IP address information and have tracked it down to a street address in Nigeria. I believe there is someone in the US working with this person and that’s why the phone calls and emails never seemed to match up. As I did more investigating, Justin found a tty site talking about how common it is now for people to abuse the TTY system for scams. There is even an internet TTY system now and it is completely free for anyone that uses it whether in the country or out. We pay for it!!!! when we pay our phone bill it’s one of those many fees. Crazy huh? So, be careful!

Happy Happy Birthday!

Today I would like to wish double birthday wishes. Happy Birthday to Matt and Happy Birthday to Brandon Jaynes. Very cool how two totally awesome people were born on the same day. I hope you guys both have a great day. I wish I could be there to celebrate with you. You guys are the best!

Chaos

Hey Everyone, I’m finally getting a little time to update. As you know, I’m starting the MBA program at GWU this Fall. As I finally have a chance to glance through my syllabi I can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed. I knew that taking online classes might mean a little more busy work but wow. One of my classes won’t be too bad, just tedious. The other was surprising. I have a project, a book report, and another project to do this semester and much of that is actually due either while I’m in Russia or just before I leave. With pretty much all of my September weekends booked up with other things, I don’t know when I can get it all done. I will mostlikely have to turn in my assignments and midterms early due to the Mission trip. I know that I can do and that I will do it, it just makes me a little nervous. I had intended on getting ahead on the assignments before the classes officially started but since I”ve had to work til 8pm everynight and some Saturdays I haven’t had time. I’ve actually been staying at work til 9pm at the earliest just trying to find my desk for the next day. This has definitely been one of the worst rushes so far. Please pray for me if you will. I know many of you do already and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that.

Today Justin is at the race in Bristol with some church friends. He probably won’t be home til around 2am or so. I was able to sleep in a little which felt good (I was up a lot of the night coughing). Java and I have been to the dump and outside a bit this morning already. I’m steadily plowing away at my “to do” list I’ve been compiling since I haven’t been home most nights to clean. Today at 3pm is a party for our Sunday School Class. It’s at a man from our church’s house. He has a pool! woohoo! This white girl is going swimming! While I don’t think many people from our class are going to be able to make it, we do have about 3 new prospects coming that have just started at GWU. I’m very excited. Justin was able to talk to them on Wednesday night at church and invited them to the party. They came by the Bookstore on Thursday to get directions to the party. I really hope they will like us and continue to come to Crestview.

Ok, enough babbling. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Madness

I’m sure most of you have forgotten who I am by now since I haven’t been online or posting lately. Things have been so hectic lately that I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Right now and for the past month or so I have been in a pre-rush state at work. This has been the busiest presemester I’ve had. We lost Maxine at the Bookstore. She moved to Florida, so Cary has had to learn her position and do her old position until we hired someone about 2 weeks ago. We both have been working extra hard and have dipped into each other’s jobs to help out. We have also been granted a new shipping room and have spent much time moving books and merchandise over there. Then we expanded our store out some and have had to move things around. On August 1st we openned our shipping center for the Fall semester. The first day we had 200 orders. Then we have had internet problems which I bet if you went to www.gardner-webb.edu right now it wouldn’t pull up. At least it hasn’t for me since I’ve been home this weekend. On the 28th my classes officially begin. They’ve posted the online class info already but since the website doesn’t work I can’t check to see what I’m in for. I would love to say that I will be back to posting and online soon but It looks like it won’t be until September. We start our late hours coming up this Wednesday and for the next two weeks I’ll be working 8:30-8:30 everyday (gotta love having a salary position). We even have to stay late on Friday this week and we’re open this coming Saturday but I will not be there because we are having Walker’s 1st birthday party (a little early,it’s really on the 24th) and I won’t miss that for anything. He is growing so fast. He started walking at 10 months and is so smart. I can’t wait to see him again. Well, I’ve babbled long enough. I hope you all have a great week ahead of you. I hope to possibly have time during the late work hours to post but I guess we will see. I miss you all!

Happy Birthday Megan!!!

I just wanted to wish a very special Birthday to Megan today. She is in the Brevard/Pisgah Forest area for her Birthday. I hope it will be a great and fun day for you. Can’t wait to see you!

Just Put an Apple in My Mouth

*Oink Oink*

Today is Justin’s birthday but it sure feels like it could be mine haha. Today the ladies from the bookstore went to Olive Garden as a sort of farewell lunch for Maxine. Her last day with us is next Friday. She will be moving to Florida to be with her husband. We ate til we were beyond stuffed and the best part….it was free. Our boss gave us money to go.

Now today at 4:30ish Heather and I have scheduled to go to the wellness center and work out. I think I might have to take it a little easy today. This pot-bellied girl might not make it haha.

After that we will cool down and then we will meet up with Justin and his family at IHOP for supper. I might need to wear my pj pants hehe.

I’ll let ya know how all that goes haha.

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUSTIN AGAIN! I love that man! I just want you all to know that it’s okay to be jealous that you can never have him as your husband (well you ladies). I mean after all I am the luckiest gal around 🙂 So…show some sweetness to my hubby today.

Happy Birthday Justin!

I would like to take a moment and wish my webmaster a very Happy Birthday. It’s strange but he has the same birthday as my husband, and the same name come to think of it…hmmmmm 😉

Happy Birthday Honey! I love you!
