Trip to Charleston

We’re back and it’s been a great mini-vacation. I wish we all had more time and more money to go on a longer trip. It was great though, to just get away from the stresses of work for a few days. We had a great time. We stayed at Shem Creek Inn and had a lot of time to just be lazy and truly relax. It rained most of the day on Monday but we still got out and about seeing Fort Moultrie and Patriot’s Point. We even swam in the pool for a little bit inbetween showers. We didn’t get to spend much time at the beach due to the weather but made a big effort to at least walk on it a bit. We all joked around a lot and it was just awesome. Even the trip there and back was fun. Hopefully Justin will be posting some pics soon of our trip.

Charleston Bound

This morning I am at the Bookstore (yes, on a Saturday). It is graduation day so we have to be open from 8-2pm. I’m trying to get all the last minute things done before I leave so that these guys here won’t be too confused while I’m gone. Justin, his parents, and I are heading to Charleston tomorrow morning. After I leave here today I’m packing and Justin and I will drop off Java at my parents and then head back to Polk County for the night. We will be back mostlikely on Tuesday. A short trip but still lots of fun and I definitely need a break. I’ve been feeling the hint of a cold coming on lately and I hope it will hold off til we get back.

Erin and Mike are well on their way to being parents. Erin is starting her 37th week of pregnancy. We are all hoping she won’t get any ideas this weekend while we are away. But if she does we will find our way there for sure! Please continue to keep them in your prayers for this is the scary part….the realization that it is really going to happen. I know Justin and I can’t wait to be an aunt and uncle.

See ya later!

Oh, and for now my comments are down…too much spam! Hopefully my dear husband will have it back up and running soon.

Teamkid

Hey guys, I thought I’d update you on Teamkid last night at church. Heather came to help. The kids were great. I’d only ever watched the 3,4,5s and they are crazy wild. These kids were anxious to learn and just at that stage where they can read and sit still. I had to teach them about death. That was interesting. I had the kids read Psalm 23:4 that I had typed on a piece of paper and they passed it down and read it out loud. Then we talked about family, friends, and pets that had died. Then I read to them about how a Christian will get 3 new things in heaven (new body, new home, new life). I didn’t think they were listening too well to that part but at the end Heather asked them what the three things were and they got all three. Then I read to them how Heaven will have streets of gold and will have jewels and pearls. I asked them to draw a picture of what they thought Heaven would look like. They did great! One boy drew clouds with cherries in them. Another girl drew gold streets with stop signs. They each had such great ideas. Then at the very end I had 12 balloons each with a message in side. Since there were 6 kids they each got two and had to play “keep it up”. Then as their parents came they got to pop them and read the messages about Heaven (such as In heaven…we will see Jesus). They loved it and the parents did too.

DCI

I can’t type long but wanted to let you know I’m still alive. Last night Heather, Justin, and I went to Charlotte for the DCI (Drum Corp International) competition. It was awesome! Then we met Jennifer afterwards to give her some gifts. We didn’t get home until after midnight and then had to play with Java for awhile since she had been cooped up forever. Then got in the bed around 1am. Now we are paying for it this morning. Us old folk can’t stay up that late anymore haha.

Tonight I’m teaching the k-2nd graders at church about death. Please pray for me and wish me luck.

Hopefully I’ll update more later once things calm down haha. I have to update about work, home, and Christine’s beautiful wedding.

Have a great day!

hawlin tail

I know that’s not how you spell haulin’ but I thought it looked funny so that’s what I put. As many of you know, this is extreme crazy season at the bookstore. For the past week and a half I’ve been carting boxes of books everywhere. We’ve received over 500 boxes of books already and more on the way. The pressure is on to get all the books checked in and shelved before Monday (July 25th). It’s been a difficult task with little to no help at times. We’ve managed to somewhat keep up but still manage to have boxes to check in at the end of the day. It’s very frustrating to work all day to clear the floor just so it can be filled up with boxes from the next delivery. I definitely am feeling the muscles working and hopefully I will be able to see the results too. I try to be careful because I tend to throw my back out a lot from lifting and tossing the heavy boxes. I feel sore now but so far so good (knock on wood). I saw the former textbook manager today that used to be there when I first arrived at GWU. She told me that once I started thinking about a family I needed to get out of there and find something else. She told me that she would be watching me and that I better listen to her.

Enough blabber about work, just wanted to let you know why I’ve been so distant. By the time I get home I am zonked. This weekend Justin’s cousin Jessica is getting married. I’m so excited. I am going to be helping with the serving at the reception. I just know she is going to be so beautiful.

Take care everyone!

Nightbeat!

Ok so guess what! The other day I just happened to randomly think about Nightbeat. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s Drum Corp International. A bunch of drum corps come and compete according to section and size. It’s awesome! Many of the biggest and best ones come. Well, it’s in Charlotte at the beginning of the month. I haven’t been in forever. We used to go at the end of band camp in high school to show freshmen what it is like to compete and actually be awesome! If anyone is interested in going let me know and I’ll let you know details.

Matt, Mandy, and Anna, do you remember how we used to play “find the midget”? hehe fun times! I miss them!

Buckaboo and Mandino Too!

I want to wish my best friend Mandy and her husband Buck a VERY Happy Anniversary! It feels like just last Summer. I hope you have an awesome day! Congrats! Love you!

Let’s see…

A lot has happened this past week and sadly I can’t remember it all. I’ve been placing the 2.5 inch thick stack of book orders starting on Friday and just called in the last one today (I still have a few on hold orders that are giving me difficulty). I’ve been rearranging the shelves from Summer to Fall tags and placing the books we already have on hand in the right spots. My returns pile has become overwhelming. I had to order the used books from Follett first at the beginning of last week before I could order the new. It isn’t looking as promising. Last semester Maxine did the used books but this time I did it. I hope everything works out right. It really is a time consuming process. Much more so than you would think. The dear Grad School of Business has STILL not turned in their orders…not even one class! The orders were due at the end of March and it’s mid July. Of course all I can do is email them to death. I just wish I could find someone with power and balls to help me out. These Grad Business students are the hardest students to please and they most of all want used books and because of the late timing of the order (or lack there of) they are pretty much not going to have used books. That means all students will blame us instead of the rightful owner of the blame, the professors and administration of the Business school. Am I shocked? No, I got my degree from these same professors and admin and let’s just say they don’t have all their silverware in the same drawer.

This past Friday Justin was mowing the lawn and I was weeding. After we finished we saw our neighbors outside. They invited us over to their porch benches for some tea and to chat. We ended up staying out there talking until after 10pm. Poor Java was in the house the whole time alone and surprisingly didn’t damage anything (she must have fallen asleep). It was really cool to get to know them better. Java likes them too. Everytime she sees the guy (Roy) she has to run and say hello. As for the other neighbors on the other side of the house. We think they are moving out. It would be cool to have some nice neighbors on that side too. The ones now only come one day a week or so to mow the lawn and then leave. We’ve never met them.

Erin is doing great! She is in her 33rd week I believe and they have started birthing classes. I’m getting more and more excited everyday. Both baby and mom are still very active. I hope to talk to her soon and found out more updates.

I’m suddenly really sleepy and my brain can’t think of anything else although I’m sure there’s plenty more to update on. Hopefully I’ll have more time soon to update more. Wish me luck for books are starting to come in and Friday looks like “D day” for most of the big orders. It’s looking more and more like I’ll be the only one there to unload the trucks.

Oh and it looks like the Moore and Bailey clan from Polk County are either at the beach or just got there today. I hope they have a great time and enjoy the beach weather for me.

Have a great night/day!
