life

Moscow, Russia

Tonight is our first informational meeting about this year’s Mission trip to Moscow, Russia. I’m really hoping a lot of people will come tonight. I’m hoping that some of the old team will return and that we can get some newcomers to join us. The trip looks like it will be the first of October. This won’t leave too much time for fundraising. Please go ahead and start praying that we will find the funds to continue spreading the news of Jesus Christ to those that have never heard it.

I know for those that have never been on a Mission trip that it is hard to get excited about it. My only wish is that I could let you all feel the awesomeness I feel when I know that I’m exactly where God wants me to be and helping to spread word of Him.

If you ever want to know anything about it let me know…or you can look back to last year’s trip and the journal I posted. It was sometime in April 2005

Thanks guys for all you do!

Decision

Some of you are aware of this but I possibly face a big decision in the next week or so.  I can’t say what yet because some of the people may read this blog but please pray for me that God’s will is done and that I will be willing to do what He wants me to do.  Don’t worry it’s nothing bad.  I’ll tell you as soon as I can.  Thanks guys.

Special Church Guest

This past Sunday Crestview had a very special church guest. It was a puppy (or very small dog). When Justin and I arrived at church we saw this tiny dog walking in the parking lot. When the pastor’s granddaughter arrived she just had to catch the dog and help it. Not wanting her to go outside and get hurt I followed her in the church. We finally found the dog sitting at one of the doors shivering. Against my better judgement I listened to the girl’s pleas and picked the dog up (luckily it wasn’t too dirty). She went and got her mom who is a nurse and the poor dog was all bones and cold and scared. They fed it a donut for lack of anything else to feed it. It ate that thing like there was no tomorrow. Then another church member saw it and went home for some dog food. Another member got a towel from her car to wrap it in. Many others gathered as well trying to figure out what to do to help the poor dog. I ended up holding the dog through Sunday School while they awaited someone to call to possibly take the dog. Finally the dog calmed down during Sunday School and fell asleep in my lap. Then I had to turn her over to another member so I could scrub up and take my jacket off and help in the nursery. By the time I was done someone had taken it home with them. I was so happy that the dog would no longer be out in the cold.

Since I was in the nursery I wasn’t able to attend the service but Justin said that Pastor Stan used the dog as an example for the kids during Children’s time explaining to them that, as we, the church worked together to help the dog, God wants us all to work together as a team to help others. I thought it was a really awesome day at church and a really good lesson learned.

Sad

Justin and I were out eating the other day and we saw that one of the girls that was clearing off tables had a dollar sticking out of her back pocket.  Before we could tell her, it apparently had fallen on the ground and a customer diagonally behind me picked it up.  She and the guy she was with were bickering about whether or not to keep it and in the end she decided to keep it.  Then Justin couldn’t help but notice a friend of hers walking up to talk to her with a shirt that said “Jesus” on the front.  I must say that it was quite ironic/funny.  I just think it’s so sad how the world is today.  It was just $1.00 and this lady didn’t feel the need to give it back to its rightful owner.  I don’t know how she can sleep at night doing things like that.  I guess that is the worst part of all.  God tells us not to steal.  He wants us to be honest and loving and to treat others as we would wish to be treated.  I just really pray that woman will change her ways.

Finally a Saturday

This morning Justin and I had planned to sleep a little bit later than we do during the week. This was the first Saturday we’ve really had a chance to in a long time. What do you know at 7:12am we were awakened by the sounds of Java whining to go out. We tried to ignore it for awhile in hopes that Java would give up and lay back down. Well that didn’t happen so I turned on my side of our new heated mattress pad and got up to take Java out. Once she did her business, I decided to try to put her back in her cage because she used to do that on weekends awhile back and would go back to sleep for an hour. Of course that didn’t happen. She continued to whine and wimper. Then on top of that, the boys were having gym class across our headboard and on the windowsill. Justin got up and let Java out of her cage but shut our bedroom door. It seemed to work for awhile but then the boys decided they wanted to break into Justin’s dresser drawers to throw his clothes on the floor. Then they went to the door and tried scratching at the door to get it open. Needless to say, we both finally gave up and got out of bed.

On another note, Congratulations to Heather and her Redskins tonight. Even though it wasn’t a good offensive game for them, they still pulled a 17-10 win over the Buccaneers. The Tarheels won over NC State this afternoon too. We didn’t get to watch much of it though. Now we are watching the Jacksonville/New England game. I’m so excited for the Carolina/NY game tomorrow. It should be a good one.

Starting Monday I have to work two weeks of 8:30am-8:00pm at the Bookstore. We get out at 4:30pm on Fridays but still, it’s going to be a long few weeks. I’m not looking forward to it. We’ve already lost our GA (she graduated in December) and we hardly have any help (surprise surprise). Wish me luck and I apologize if I disappear again during these two weeks. Who knows, maybe I’ll actually have some more time to blog at work after things slow down after 6:30ish.

Have a great week everyone.

Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’

I just wanted to share a big milestone in Betty Lou’s life. Just yesterday ole Betty Lou rolled over the 100,000 mile mark in her life’s journey. Now let’s all hope she doesn’t decide she needs a new belt for her wardrobe anytime soon until we can get her a shopping appointment.

Happy Santa Day?

I’ll make this a brief entry for now but I was in the store last night with Justin and was suddenly overwhelmed with this feeling of disgust. I told Justin I was anti-Santa Claus this year(not to take that away from little kids) because that seems to be all that Christmas has come to be. It’s either “Happy Holidays” or “HO, HO, HO, I’ll bring you video games”. What are we teaching our children? What are we as Christians allowing this Awesome Day of Jesus’ birth to become?

This year (and every year) I truly encourage you to go out of your way to tell someone….everyone, MERRY CHRISTMAS! or HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!

Christmas shouldn’t be about getting presents, it should be about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, our savior. This is the most special day of all! Without Jesus we would be nothing and Heaven would certainly not be an option. So instead of reading “The Night Before Christmas” this year. Read the Christmas story straight from the Bible.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Revival 2005

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve really sat down and updated this thing. I finally have a few minutes between supper and laundry to tell you about this year’s revival at Crestview.

November 6th Morning Service:
1 Corinthians 1:18-25
Title: We preach Christ Crucified.

For some reason I didn’t really take any notes on this sermon. I was probably just trying to adjust to his style of preaching and got caught up listening. I really like the first verse of the passage, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” Wow! How true is that? Then it goes on to say…well I’ll just let you read it…but check out verses 22-25. I definitely have to put 25 here, “For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.”

November 6th Evening Service
Nehemiah 1:1-11
Title: We must confess.

John Bridges (the preacher) shared with us that we need to have a broken heart (verse 4) before we can have true revival. Only then can we truly confess our sins (verse 6). He talked about sins of the church (not just Crestview, but in general): arrogance, superiority, temptation, trivializing the gospel, gospel gadgetry(to excite people), power, authority, and control. We shouldn’t try to “spice up” the gospel or the church just to get people to show up. We need to realize that the jobs of the church aren’t just for the pastor, secretary, treasurer, music minister, etc., they are for all of us. We all need to pitch in. God brought each of us to our particular church not just to sit and watch but to contribute what we can bring to the table. And in matters of the church or decision making of the church, it’s not about who is bigger and better and more authoritative, but what God’s will is and how we are to achieve it.

My favorite verses of the passage are verses 8 and 9:
“…If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, but if you RETURN TO ME and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.”

November 7th Evening Service
Phillipians 2:1-11
Title: Humility

We need to seek to be a humble church.
Characteristics of a humble church: cooperating people, be willing to say “I was wrong” and “I’m sorry”, be able to laugh together(humor). (Of course there are more than that)

God even humbled Himself. He became human. He “did it our way” so that He could show us the way on “our terms.”

Verse 5: “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”

November 8th Evening Service
For some reason I cannot find my notes on this night but I believe it was about encouragement…I’ll keep looking.

November 9th Evening Service (last night)
Mark 8:27-38
Title: How to get back to the cross.

3 steps: Verse 34
1) Deny yourself
2) Take up your cross (self=sacrifice)
3) ‘follow me’

Who do we say Jesus is? (with our life?, our lifestyle?, our behavior?, our worship?)
What a question to think about…Is what we do on a daily basis pleasing to God? or is it more pleasing to us or others?

Verse 35: “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.” (just something to think about)

Well, believe it or not that was the shortened version of Revival. Hopefully I’ll find the lost sermon haha. I hope I didn’t bore you too much. For those that just skimmed it, maybe you need to look at it again…read the passages. It will only take a few minutes.

Thanks all!
